STERLING- Lawrence Slifer, 79, of Sterling, died Monday, May 25, 2015 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Lawrence was born September 23, 1935 in Ogle County, the son of Howard and Beulah (Shilling) Slifer. He served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne. He married Marilyn Kitzmiller in Polo on August 7, 1954, she preceded him in death on April 16, 2015. Survivors include four daughters, Sandra Slifer, and Valarie (Daniel) Stallings, both of Rockford, Laurie (William) Free and Barbara (Robert Sr.) Linton, both of Sterling; one son, Lawrence Slifer, Jr, of Sterling; one sister, Lorraine Slifer; eleven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, with Kevin Gladhill officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM Saturday, prior to funeral services at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be held at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling.
