Obituary of Elwin D. Swanson

ELWIN D. SWANSON ROCK FALLS-Elwin D. Swanson, 87, formerly of Harmon, died Sunday January 31, 2016 at the Franklin Grove Living Center, Franklin Grove. Elwin was born on March 30, 1928, in Sterling, the son of Elmer L. and Helen (Williams) Swanson. He married Lois Ann on August 22, 1948 in Rock Falls; she preceded him in death on October 21, 1970. He married Minerva Farthing Hagberg on December 14, 1974, in Rock Falls; she preceded him in death on November 26, 2010. Elwin was a lifelong farmer and very active in Lee County 4-H. He was a member of the Lee County 4-H board. Elwin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Survivors include, two daughters Tamara (Kenneth) Long, of Stillman Valley, Cheri (Jon) Stewart, of Dixon-Ottawa; one son Kirt (Susan) Swanson, of Dixon; one sister Mary Cheryl (Martin) Von Holten, of Walnut; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Elwin was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lois Ann; and second wife, Minerva. Funeral services for Elwin will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016, at 11AM at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation, Sterling, with the Reverend Daniel Behmlander of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Rock Falls, officiating. The visitation will be from 6-8PM, Thursday, February 4, 2016, and also 10-11AM on Friday prior to the funeral service at the Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation, Sterling. Burial will be on Oak Knoll Cemetery, Sterling. A memorial has been established to Good Shephard Lutheran Church in Rock Falls and Lee County 4-H. Condolences may be sent to schillingfuneralhome.com.
