ROCK FALLS-Jose Luis  Rivera, 64, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Memorial Hermann Hospice, Houston, TX. He was an assistant foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad for 47 years until his retirement in 2012.

    Jose was born December 30, 1952 in San Luis Potosi,  SLP, Mexico, the son of Roberto and Maria Elena (Moctezuma) Rivera. He married Delia Pena on  March 6, 1976 in Sterling.

    Survivors include his wife, Delia of Rock Falls; four daughters; Edith Canales of Rock Falls; Edna (Gilberto Fuentes) Rivera of Chicago, Elissa (Ryan) Kunnemann of Warrenville and Edelia Rivera of Downers Grove; two sisters, Sylvia Hortensia-Rivera of San Antonio, TX and Maria Lettie (Ruben) Gutierrez of Rock Falls; one brother, Roberto Rivera of San Luis Potosi, SLP, Mexico;  six grandchildren, Olivia Danreiter, Cody and Easton Canales, and Dennis, Caleb and Kane Kunnemann.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jose Luis Rivera Jr. and two brothers, Manuel and Juan Rivera.

    Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation, Sterling with Paul Sheley, pastor of Oneighty Church, Sterling. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.

    A memorial has been established.
