Obituary of June Soderquist

Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

June Rose Soderquist of Sterling passed away on Saturday, February 24th, 2018, at the age of 87.

June was born on June 21, 1930, in Deer Grove, the daughter of Rudolph and Emma Harms. She grew up as the youngest of six children and graduated from Sterling High School in 1948.

June married Roy Soderquist on October 12, 1952. He preceded her in death in 1997. The couple had three children. June is survived by her daughter, Linn (Jim) McDonald of Normal, IL, and her two sons: Jim Soderquist (Eunhee) of Hawthorn Woods, IL, and David (Pam) Soderquist of Tigard, Oregon. She has six grandchildren: Lisa (Ryan) and Kyle (Kate) of Denver, CO, Caroline of Brooklyn, NY, Eric of Hawthorn Woods, Benjamin Rudolph of Bozeman, MT and Laurel Rose, of Tigard, OR.

She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and was actively involved in her church, New Life Lutheran. She particularly enjoyed being a member of the quilting and sewing ministry group along with the friendship with her fellow quilters at New Life. She lived her life to the fullest through faith, family and friends.

June was especially blessed with the close friendship of Harold “Swede” Knapp and his family over the past four years. They enjoyed going to Wrigley Field, excursions to Iowa and Galena, and frequent Friday night dinners together.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Soderquist, her parents, four brothers and one sister.

The family would like to thank all of the angels from Rock River Hospice and Home for their love and care of June as she progressed through her illness.

Services for June will be held at New Life Lutheran Church in Sterling Tuesday, February 27 at 1pm, with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. There will be a private burial at Oak Knoll Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in remembrance of June to New Life Lutheran Church or Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.
