SAUK VALLEY NEWS ALICE NEWTON MILLEDGEVILLE-Alice Newton, 93, went home to be with her Savior on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society in Prophetstown. Alice was born August 27, 1925 in Milledgeville, the daughter of Lyle and Ruth (Flemming) Wetzell. She married Jack Newton on December 3, 1944. They were married 44 years. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1989. In September of 1954, Alice realized her need of a Savior, and asked God to save her. Immediately she knew that things were different. And because of the promises in God’s Word, she knew that absent from the body, she would be present with the Lord. That became a reality on March 6. Alice was a long-time member of Faith Baptist Church of Sterling. Alice is survived by seven children: Michael (Alberta) of Milledgeville, Douglas (Diane) of Peoria, Suzanne (David) Rogers of Willmar, MN, Leslie Smalley of, Anderson, IN, William (Ann) of Indianapolis, IN, Joel (Diane) of Dilworth, MN and Ruth (Doug) Bachorik of Metro Manila, Philippines; 24 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Margaret Stevenson; one brother, Tom Wetzell; one son, Gregory Newton; one son-in-law, Ernie Smalley and two grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 6-8 PM at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Funeral will be at 10 AM Friday, March 22, 2019 at Faith Baptist Church, Sterling, with Pastor David Rogers and Pastor Bryan Bice co-officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Milledgeville.
