Barbara Lula Smith Sterling, IL - Barbara L. Smith, 90, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at her home. Barbara was born September 13, 1919, in Meridianville, AL, the daughter of Robert and Annie (Odell) Hereford. She married Jessie Smith in November, 1942 in Rossville, GA. She was a charter member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Sterling. Survivors include her husband, Jessie; two daughters, Phyllis (Robert) Simpkins, of Sterling, and Fran (Charley) Riney, of Rockford; three sons, Phil Smith, Curt (Joan LeBlanc) Smith and Ernie Smith, all of Sterling; six sisters, Alice Collins, Annette (Robert) Ashford, both of Dixon, Jennette (Ron) Burton, of Virginia Beach, VA, Julia (Carl) Hardin, Verzelia Young, and Georgia Turner, all of Hunsville, AL; one brother, Willie (Julia) Hereford, of Dixon; twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Dwain "Scrapper" Hereford; two sisters, Curtis Love and Thelma Hereford; a brother, Daniel Hereford; one granddaughter and one great grandson. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 22, 2010 at First Baptist Church with Reverend Alexander of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. A memorial has been established.
