Barry E. Montague Sr., 83, of Sterling died Friday October 25, 2024 at Rock River Hospice & Home surrounded by family. Barry was born June 10, 1941 in Hannibal MO the son of Kenneth and Helen (Yohn) Russell. He married Louise Fatschel on October 1, 1964 in Whiteside County.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1959, starting as E-1 and advanced to E-5 builder second class. In 1963 after serving in the Navy, he began employment at Northwestern Steel and Wire Company. In 1972 he began a career in the Real Estate Business with his wife Louise while continuing to work for Northwestern Steel and Wire Company upon retiring as a supervisor. He served many years with the Sterling Optimist Club including holding the position, Governor of Illinois Optimists.
Barry and his wife Louise enjoyed spending time with his brother-in-law Sam and sister-in-law Carol Richey. They loved going for long rides and always finding a nice place to eat and shop. He was an avid bowler with his wife, enjoyed playing golf and he did get a hole in one!
Survivors include his four children Cathleen Montague, Pamela (Scott) Fowler, Barry (Shelley) Montague Jr., and Heather (Dino) Merced; two sisters Linda Frank, and Cindy (Tim) Wike; seven grandchildren Jennifer, Heather, Hannah, Monica, Tara, Nolan, Melanie; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Louise.
There will be a private family graveside at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
