STERLING-Clare L. “Bud” Peska, 83, of Sterling, died Saturday, May 25, 2019 at his home. Clare was born April 25, 1936 in Fulton, the son of Clare L. and Helen (Thompson) Peska. He was a roofer for many years and retired from Northwestern Steel and Wire after 35 years. Bud was a chauffeur and caregiver to many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed mowing the lawn, gardening, and cruising the seas. Bud’s greatest prides were his children and grandchildren, and several “extras” he picked up along the way through church, neighbors, and friends. Bud attended Bethel Reformed Church in Sterling. Survivors include, his wife, Gloria; three daughters, Cindy (Richard) Ankeney of Galesburg, Colleen (Scott) McCarter of Sterling, and Melissa (Tim) Miller of Sterling; two sons, Kevin (Toni) Peska of Newton, IA , and Michael (Betsy) Peska of Carol Stream; two brothers, Jim (Rosanne) Peska of Fulton and Charles (Yvette) Easter of Arizona; Many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, and a special nephew, John Segobiano; 12 grandchildren, Justin Ankeney, Sarah (Jeff) Myer, Tara (Erick) Zehr, Rachel (Bryce) Skaggs, Taylor (Michael) McGonegle, Melinda (Tim) Morgan, Heather McCarter, Erin (Ben) Scarbalis, Jamie (Scott) Gladstone, Jessica Sheppard, JD (Megan) Sheppard, and Tegan Miller; 10 great grandchildren with one more due in September. He was preceded in death by his parents; Step-father, Walter Easter; three sisters, Wilma Beukema, Christine Segobiano, and Judy Peska; one son-in-law, John E. Sheppard; and one great granddaughter Blaiksley Sheppard at birth. Funeral services will be Saturday June 1st, 2019 at 11 AM at the Bethel Reformed Church, Sterling, with Reverend Gary DeKoekkoek, officiating. Visitation will be Friday May 31, 2019 from 5-8 PM at Bethel Reformed Church, and from 10-10:45 AM prior to services at the church. Cremation will take place after the funeral, and burial at a later date. Memorials have been established to Bethel Reformed Church and Gaffey Home Nursing and Hospice.
