Clyde Nelson

February 2, 1916 — August 18, 2014

STERLING-Clyde L. Nelson, 98, second son of Fred Nelson, Sr. and Josephine (Lundquist) Nelson was born February 2, 1916 in Milan, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rock Falls in 1934 by Rev. Wm. Streng. He left this earth to join his Lord on August 18, 2014. He attended grade school in Minnesota until his family moved south of Rock Falls in 1929. He attended grade school there, graduating from High School in 1931. He was united in marriage to Darlene Nelson on December 14, 1937 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Since that time, they've lived at their present address. He became a member of the Lutheran Church in 1934, serving on the church council for many years, and also ushering. He served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed at Fort Custer, Battle Creek, Fort Russell, Marfa, Texas, Camp Swift, Austin, Texas, Camp Polk, Leesville, Louisiana, Camp Claiborne, and Alexandria, Louisiana, where he was discharged as a Tech Sergeant. Charles was employed by Eberhart's Body Shop in Rock Falls for 28 years, and Frantz Manufacturing Company for 18 years, retiring in 1985 as a Foreman. He was a man who had the ability to repair and create. He loved to read and do mechanical things including cars. He was very handy at fixing different things for his nieces and nephews. His home was his pride and joy. He had no children but loved his nieces and nephews, and doing so much for them. He had pride in everything he did, and caring so much for others. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include one sister, Doris Davis, of Edmond, OK; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; his parents; two brothers, Glenn Nelson and Fred Nelson, Jr., of Rock Falls; one sister, Jean Dawson, of Warrensburg, MO; two nieces, Betty Pendgraft, and Phyllis Megli, of Sterling; and one nephew, Ned Nelson in infancy. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 10:30AM at New Life Lutheran Church of Sterling, with Reverend William Sullivan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 10:30 AM prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
