Sterling - Darlene Weckesser, 87, died Sunday, June 16, 2013 at KSB Hospital. She was the co-owner and bookkeeper for Weckesser Plumbing and Heating for many years. Darlene was born November 20, 1925 in Stahl, MO, the daughter of Audrey Earl and Letta (Byrn) Leonard. She was a graduate of Sterling High School class of 1943. After graduation, she worked at the WW II POW camp at Camp Grant, Green River Ammunition plant, and headed up proofreading department at A.C. Nielsen in Chicago. She married Loren I. Weckesser on May 15, 1948 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2002. She had served on Board of YWCA for several years. Survivors include three daughters Bonnie (John) Bruins of Coleta, Carla (Stan) Scheidecker of Sterling, Dana (Scott Guthrie) Weckesser-Guthrie of Baltimore, MD; one son, Michael Irving (Dana Kennedy) Weckesser of Reston,VA; two sisters Kathleen Hunkins of Dixon, A. Merrildean (Eugene) Ebersole of Panama City, FL; and eight grandchildren Elizabeth (Kevin) Higgins, Audra (Gabe) Fairchild, Leslie Guthrie, Tyler Weckesser, Ian (Lisa) Bruins, Seth Bruins, Brandon (Nena) Scheidecker and Chad Scheidecker; and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul D. Leonard; and two grandsons, Sean Weckesser Guthrie and Alexander Irving Kennedy Weckesser. Services will be held at 10AM, Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, with Pastor Audra Fairchild, granddaughter, officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be held 5-7PM, Friday, at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.
