STERLING- Darrel E. Kitzmiller, 87, of Sterling, died July 8, 2017 at Saint Anthony’s in Rockford. Darrel was born October 28, 1929, in Polo, the son of Orville and Lucille (Meyers) Kitzmiller. Darrel married Delores Rupe on July 27, 1955 in Sterling. She preceded him in death on December 3, 1996. He served as a Corporal in the Army from 1947-1950. Darrel worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire from 1952, until his retirement in 1990. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed fishing, and a huge Cubs fan. Darrel loved his family, and was a father figure to his immediate grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Debra (Wayne) Williamson of Rock Falls, and Dawn Avila of Sterling, and Leslie (Leon) Harvey of Stansbury Park UT; one sister Arlene Offill of Freeport; six grandchildren Shelly (Kayla) Winters, Erik (Amber) Winters, Amber (Jamie) Hille, Jamie (Kim) Avila, Brent (Kim) Williamson, and Keith (Candace) Williamson; ten great-grandchildren Brantley Winters, Brynlee Winters, Olivia Winters, Blakeden Brown, Tiara Winters, Joslynn Harris, Mason Avila, Zachery Near, Odin Williamson, and Lilly Williamson; and many nieces and nephews; and special friend Virginia Winters. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Bob Kitzmiller, Ronald Kitzmiller, and Keith Kitzmiller; four sisters Bernice Hasselman, Myrna Miller, Marilyn Slifer, and Phyllis Jean Kitzmiller. The funeral is at 12PM Tuesday July 11, 2017, at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation, with Scott Porter, of Abiding Word, officiating. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling.
