ROCK FALLS- David Lawrence Dengler, 71, passed away January 16, 2021 at Rock River Hospice and Home, Sterling. He was born to Henry and Helen (Schaefer) Dengler on March 31, 1949 in Davenport, IA. After he lost his dad at the age of 4, he grew up spending summers helping his grandparents on their farms. He joined the Air Force in 1970 for four years, including one in Vietnam. He married his loving wife, Marcia Forder Bachman on April 4, 1995. They spent almost 26 years enjoying life together. He retired in 2014 after working as a diesel mechanic for over 40 years. He was the kind of boss who would always compliment a worker for a job well done. Dave was a loving and caring man who was liked by everyone. He was the kind of man who never judged anyone and who never missed a chance to say “thank you”. He valued any amount of time he could spend with family, whether it was in person or over the phone. He was known as the cookie monster! He always sat in the kitchen whenever cookies were being made waiting to be the cookie tester. Dave and Marcia were inseparable and you never saw one without the other. They enjoyed watching and rooting for their favorite team the Wisconsin Badgers. Their daily tradition was enjoying their afternoon coffee together in one of their matching mugs that they had collected over the years. It was one of their favorite things to do together. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Jacob Bachman. Survivors include his soulmate, Marcia; his brother, Robert; his six children, Eric (Amanda) Dengler, Ellen (Darren) Abney, Lee (Tiffany) Dengler, Kelly (Jerry) Rule, Tod (Jeni) Bachman and Chad Bachman and eight grandchildren, Katelyn (James), Samantha, Gabriel, Carissa, Kenadie, Wyatt, Riley and Aria. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-6PM at First Congregational Church, Rock Falls. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Masks and social distancing guidelines will be followed. The family would like to thank the staff at Rock River Hospice and Home for their care, compassion and concern. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
