Dean Dahlgren

DEAN L. DAHLGREN STERLING - Dean L. Dahlgren, 87, died Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Dixon Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. Dean was born October 22, 1924 in Monmouth, the son of Fred and Marie (McCleary) Dahlgren. He married LaVonne V. McNeil on June 22, 1945 in Sterling. Dean was a graduate of Sterling High School and Cornell College. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marines during the Korean war and retired as a Captain. Dean worked for his father before becoming owner of Grebner's Shoe Store in Sterling where he worked for 25 years before retiring. He also owned numerous rental properties in the Sterling area. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling and of the Sterling Noon Rotary Club. Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Howard, of Rockford and Judi (Kenny Hilb) Dahlgren, of Mc Henry; one son, Curtis (Debbie) Dahlgren, of Sterling; two grandchildren, Jennifer Dahlgren, of Chicago and James Dahlgren, of Winter Park, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earl Dahlgren. There will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded. Arrangements were made by Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling.
