DEMETRA (MECHI) MULLINS LUND STERLING- Demetra (MECHI) Mullins Lund, born January 30, 1937 in Trenton, TN, passed away on February 19, 2009 at her home in Sterling with her husband, children, and relatives at her side. Mechi attended the Milan, TN public school system and graduated from Milan High School in 1955. Mechi also attended the University of TN-Martin for one year and then Murray State University in Murray, KY, where she met her future husband, Paul Lund. Mechi and Paul were joined in holy matrimony on March 21, 1959 and have been married just 4 weeks short of their 50th Golden Anniversary. Mechi and Paul moved to Sterling, IL in 1959 where Paul was employed as an Industrial Engineer and later an Industrial Steel Salesman for Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. Mechi and Paul lived in the state of Michigan while Paul was employed as a salesman for Northwestern Steel for approximately 10 years before returning to Sterling, IL in 1990. Mechi and Paul joined the First Baptist Church of Sterling in 1991. Mechi was an active member of the First Baptist Church and served on various committees. In addition to being a loving wife, devoted sister and servant of God, Mechi was a loving Mother and Grandmother whose spirit of strength and support will be greatly missed by each and every one of her family. Mechi was a member of the Rock River Country Club and was very active in the sport of tennis at Westwood and Kilgore Park. She also served as President of the Auxiliary Club at CGH Medical Center, 1983. Mechi is survived by her husband, Paul; two daughters, DeAnne Cotthoff (and husband Stephen) of Franklin, TN and Lynette Benson (and husband Peter) of Canyon Lake, TX; a grandson, Brennan Paul Cotthoff of Auburn, AL; and a grand-daughter Leah A. Benson, of Santa Barbara, CA. Mechi has a brother, Evangelist Roger Mullins of Atlanta, GA and a sister, Judith Rauchle of Roanoke, VA. She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Gwendolyn Rogers Mullins and her father, Kenneth Van Mullins of Milan, TN; and four infant children. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Monday, February 22, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Sterling with Pastor John Kermott officiating. Music will be provided by Mechi's brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, February 21, 2009 from 6:00 �" 8:00 PM at the Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grand-daughter, Leah Benson; grandson Brennan Cotthoff; and nephews, Brach Rauchle, Buddy Mullins, Paul Lauff, and Jonathan Lauff. A Memorial has been established. Memorial funds should be made payable to the Demetra Lund Memorial Fund. Memorials will then be directed to the Gift of Life House, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
