Donald Skibbe

   Donald T. Skibbe of Morrison passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, surrounded by family.Don was born on July 29, 1933, in Elgin, Illinois, to Herman and Evelyn Skibbe (later Wilkins).

   Don lived a life that embodied the American dream, a life centered on family, community, and hard work. He farmed near Coleta for over 60 years and worked for more than 30 years as a crane operator at Northwestern Steel and Wire—commonly known as "the mill" in this community—where he forged lasting friendships and earned a reputation for dependability and a strong work ethic.He was married to Barbara for nearly 70 years before her passing in 2021. 

   He was also preceded in death by his parents and his son Rodney.

   Don is survived by two sisters: Nancy Melton and Debra Barger; three children: Richard Skibbe, Pamela Vittitow, and Kimberly Skibbe-Hay; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

   Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 11 AM at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Visitation will be from 10-11AM, prior to services at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeff Coester, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Afterward, family and friends are invited to gather at the Candlelight Inn in Rock Falls for a time of remembrance and refreshments.

   A memorial has been established to the Milledgeville Fire Department and Alzheimer’s Association.
