DORA JANE KURK CHICAGO - Dora Jane Kurk, 68, formerly of Sterling, passed away October 15, 2012 in Chicago. She was born in Sterling, the daughter of the late Edward H. and Sallie L. Kurk. Dora attended Northern Illinois University and Moser Business College. She was a retired office manager at Sureway Tool and Engineering in Chicago. She was the beloved companion and best friend of Claude Nugent of Chicago and the loving sister of Leona (Donald) Dirks of Sterling; nieces Juli Ann (William) Osborne of Stirling, Scotland and Christine (Greg) Gallantine of Sterling; nephews, Gary (Linda) Dirks of Prophetstown, John (Angel) Dirks and David (Rebecca) Dirks both of Clarksville, TN; and several great-nieces and nephews as well as great-great-nieces and nephews. She was an avid collector of Dept. 56 villages and Jim Shore artisan figures and past-president of the Windy City 56ers collectors club in Niles. Dora loved to travel and had visited 47 states. She was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and had been a season ticket holder for many years, making many life-long friends during that time at the games and Cubs conventions. She loved playing cards and board games and was deemed a "feisty" competitor. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Sterling and in earlier days was a member and junior leader of the Busy Bees 4-H Club and a representative of area Girl Scouts at National Roundups. Dora was a woman of strong principles, with a straightforward approach to life, and a tireless love of family and friends. There will be a Celebration of her life service at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11 AM. Cremation rites have been accorded.
