ROCK FALLS- Dorothy Gaye Pope, 72, of Rock Falls, died Monday, November 10, 2014 at her home after a 5 year battle with cancer. Dorothy was born on February 23, 1942, the daughter of Lonnie and Ella Jane (Smith) Forren. She married Meredith Pope and he preceded her in death. Gaye worked as a short order cook in several places in Rock Falls including, 76 station, and Food Lane restaurant, and retired as a cook from Hammet House in Sterling. Survivors include two sons, Jack (Dawn Canady) Pope, of Burlington, NC, and Clark (Rachel Davis) Pope, of Cary, NC; three sisters, Mae Young, of Ohio; Mildred Bowyer, of Danese, WV; and Leta Hann, of Lewisburg, WV; one brother, Joe (Flo) Forren, also of Lewisburg, WV; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Brian Pope; and longtime companion Robert Kessler; and eight siblings. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 14, 2014 at 11 AM at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, with the Reverend Scott Porter, of Abiding Word, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM, Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.
