Douglas D. House STERLING – Douglas D. House, 90, of Sterling, died Monday, June 14, 2021 at his home. Doug was born August 10, 1930 in Como. The son of Paul W. and Loretta (Chapman) House. Douglas House and Rosalouise Robinson (Monnier) were married on April 27, 1951 in Galesburg. Doug was a veteran of the Korean war and after his service the couple had three boys; Curt, Corey Allen, and Craig. At 8 years old, Corey Allen was killed in a tragic accident. Having lived through the desperate times of the Great Depression, Doug and Rose were passionate about providing a better life for their boys, so in 1973, they started a trucking company, Rock River Cartage, Inc. The years to follow offered many ups and downs but neither one gave up. Together, they persisted. Together, they persevered. Together, Doug and Rose poured their hearts into the business and their employees. Rock River Cartage, Inc. is still operating today. Doug was undeniably a pillar in the lives of his wife, family, and friends. He had determined hands, a “tell it like it is” mentality, eyes bright with laughter and an eternally helpful heart. If you had a problem, just ask the “Wizard”. Like an engineer working a puzzle, “the Wizard” would obsessively work a problem until he found a solution. With cheeks bright red from hoots of laughter, he loved to tease and was always delighted to receive a good razzing in return. His loss will be a reverberating echo in the hearts of his loved ones. Survivors include his wife, Rose; two sons, Curt (Sharon) House and Craig (Barb) House, both of Sterling; one sister, Diana (Doug) Sisson; two brothers, Rick (Jana) House of Sterling and Jerry (Carol) of Morrison; eight grandchildren, Jessica House, Priscilla McNeill, Christie House, Ryan House, Justin House, Jasmine Culpepper, Jenna Hazel, Jaden Will, and Jackson House and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Corey Allen House and two brother and sisters-in-law, Darrel (Shirley) House and Paul (Leona) House. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling with Dalmus Meeks officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11AM Saturday, prior to services at funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. The House family invites everyone to lunch at 1:00PM at Harvest Time Bible Church (Fellowship Hall) Rock Falls, IL. A memorial has been established.
