STERLING- Edward "Bud" W. Carl, 83, of Sterling, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014. He worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire, and then at Anixter until his retirement in 1993. Bud served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. Edward was born January 12, 1931, in Sterling, the son of Walter E. and Margaret A. (Pigg) Carl. He married Janet (Oltmanns) Carl on April 24, 1960 at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Sterling. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, involved with the Loyal Lutherans, and also a member of L.O.O.M. Survivors include his wife, Janet; three daughters, Anita Carl, Charlene (Douglas) O'Connell, and Denise Carl, all of Sterling; four grandchildren, Devin, Kellen, and Aislinn O'Connell, and Brynna Carl; one aunt, Deanie Christiansen, of River Forest; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mildred Shuman, and Charlotte Gasso; and one brother in infancy, Jimmy Carl. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 5PM to 8PM at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. Funeral will be Friday, April 4, 2014 at 11 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling, with Reverend Mark Oehlert, Pastor of St. John's, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial has been established to St. John's Lutheran Church and Self Help. Condolences may be sent to schillingfuneralhome.com.
