Elizabeth G. Speaker (Aunt Betty) STERLING- Elizabeth G. Speaker, 94, of Sterling, died Sunday, August 10, 2014 at her home. Elizabeth was born August 10, 1920 in Old Dominion, VA, the daughter of Ross and Lucy (Turner) Bugg. Her adoptive parents were William and Ida Susan Gamber. She graduated from Myerstown High School and Mansfield State University in PA. She married Charles Leo Speaker in Myerstown, PA on July 15, 1945. She was a local educator in Sterling Public Schools for 25 years, teaching Home Economics and English. She was involved in and volunteered with many charitable and non-profit community organizations. She is survived by two sons, Tom (Cathy) Speaker of Cedar Falls, IA, and William (Mary Beth) Speaker, of Sarasota, FL; four grandchildren, Delicia Speaker, of Cedar Falls, IA, Elizabeth (Cody) Speaker, of Tumwater, WA, Stephanie Speaker, of New Haven, CT, and Megan Speaker, of Sarasota, FL; her special niece, Jan (Bob) Prescott, of Sterling; and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents and adoptive parents; five brothers, and one sister. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 5PM to 7PM at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, and 10AM to 11AM, Thursday, August 14, 2014 before the service at 11AM. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery, in Dixon. A memorial has been established to the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society and First Congregational Church (The Big Red Church).
