Rock Falls- Elva B. Greer, 85, of Rock Falls passed away Sunday July 23, 2017 at Rock Falls Rehabilitation surrounded by loved ones. Elva was born May 15, 1932 in Atkins VA, the daughter of Henry and Margie (Caudle) Burnop. She married Leonard “Buck” Greer on May 23, 1953 in Atkins VA. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2007. She was passionate about two things; telling others about Jesus Christ and her family. As a young woman, she ministered at youth conventions and revivals by singing with a women's trio and preaching, which opened the door to meet her husband while singing at the same funeral. Elva is best known for her singing and love of music. If there was a gospel concert in town, she could usually be found there. She encouraged her children to use their gifts and fostered their talents by doing whatever necessary to ensure they received lessons. To earn extra money she cleaned houses and sold Avon, achieving Presidents Club status after only a year. Elva never met a stranger. She had an engaging spirit and an infectious smile. To her family and close friends she was known to make the best biscuits and gravy. Her home had an open door, inviting family and friends to just walk in. She shared her love for Christ with everyone no matter where she was. Survivors include three sons Stanley Greer of Virginia Beach VA, Joseph (Jackie) Greer of Galt, and Dale (Brenda) Greer of Rock Falls; two daughters Deborah Goodwin of Rock Falls, and Marcia (Mike) Henderson of Opelika, AL; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Elva was also preceded in death by her parents, one son-in-law Al Goodwin; one daughter in-law Alicia Greer; one niece Gaynelle Anderson; four brothers Lee Burnop, Carl Burnop, Virgil Burnop, and Gene Burnop; and three sisters Audrey Cuba, Helen Harris, and Elsie Burnop in infancy. Funeral service is at 4PM Thursday July 27, 2017 at First Open Bible Church in Rock Falls, with pastors Mike Worrell and Bob Larson, and Scott Porter officiating. Visitation is from 3PM-4PM prior to the funeral. A memorial has been established.
