HAROLD M. NELSON STERLING - Harold M. Nelson, 91, died Friday, February 19, 2010 at CGH Medical Center. He was an associate professor at Sauk Valley College for 27 years before retiring in 1991. Harold was born November 5, 1918 in McHenry, the son of Magnus and Theresa (Granath) Nelson. He married Frances Gunderson on August 6, 1949 in Leland. He was a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling. Harold was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for fifty years and the past president of the Lincoln Land Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was also on the board of directors for the Heart of Illinois Blood Program, Peoria region, and a member of the Blackhawk Lung Association. Survivors include his wife, Frances; two sons, David (Maria) Nelson, of Morton, and Mark (Sue) Nelson, of Elkhart, IN; two sisters, June Oxtoby and Nancy (Donald) Butler, both of McHenry; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Leonard. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 22, 2010, at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Patrick Pinion, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 2-5 PM, Sunday, February 21, 2010, at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. A memorial has been established to the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church or Sauk Valley Foundation - Health Career Program. Condolences may be sent to www.schillingfuneralhome.com.
