Harvey W. Johnson, 94, died Monday, December 14, 2015 at Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison. Harvey was a vocal music teacher at Sterling High School, prior to retirement. Harvey was born March 10, 1921 in Rockford the son of Helge and Esther (Sanden) Johnson. He married Arlene Hedberg on August 12, 1949 in Albert City, IA. He served in the United States Navy in the Philippines, during World War II. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling, where he directed the choir for over 30 years. Harvey worked at Rock Island Arsenal prior to being in the Navy. Upon discharge from the Navy, he attended Augustana College where he met Arlene. Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Morrison; daughter, Miriam ”Mimi” (Dennis Staats) Duffin of Sterling; two sons, Mark (Sharon) Johnson of Goose Creek, SC and Brian (Tami) Johnson of Burnsville, MN; one daughter-in-law, Faith Beatty-Johnson of Pinetop, AZ; one sister-in-law, Barbara Johnson of Rock Island; nine grandchildren, Jenny, Mark (Kasey), Emily, Benjamin, Thomas, Charity, and Peace Johnson; Adam Duffin and Victoria (Kevin Tumleson) Duffin. He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Johnson, four sisters, Dorothy Andree, Frances Burtch, Gladys Ryden, and Doris Lindberg; three brothers, Robert, Earl, and Chester Johnson. Funeral services will be held at11 AM Friday, December 18, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling, with Reverend Mark Oehlert, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling.
