MRS. HELEN E. GRENNAN STERLING - Mrs. Helen E. Grennan, 94, died Saturday evening June 5, 2010 at Coventry Village in Sterling. Helen Grennan was born on September 23, 1915 in Harmon, the daughter of Pat and Mary Dyer Blackburn. She married Mathew E. Grennan on October 28, 1933 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1973. Helen was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She served as Eucharistic minister and teacher of CCD. For twenty-five years she was President of St. Rita's Court of Catholic Forresters. She was also a co-member of Sisters of Loretto. Helen was associated with her husband Matt and son Jim at Grennan Funeral Home. She is survived by eight daughters, Norma McDonald of Sterling, Kay Adams of Sterling, Peggy (Jerry) McDonnell of Rock Hill, SC, Ginger Propheter of Baltimore, MD, Nancy McGinn of Sterling, Sally (Bert) Davis of Rock Falls, Teresa (Arnold) Rodriguez of Sterling, and Martha Hurd of Grove City, OH; two sons, Jim (Juana) Grennan of Stoughton, WI and Pat "Dugan" (Karla) Grennan of Maynard, IA; forty-eight grandchildren; one hundred three great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Grennan, and Susie Frump Kostoff; two sisters; one grand-daughter; and three great-grandchildren. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Associate Pastor Reverend Juan Ayala officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 PM, Tuesday, at St. Mary Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at 2PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. Mary Catholic Church or the Newman Scholarship Fund.
