JEAN HAMMETT STERLING - Jean Hammett, 96, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Coventry Living Center. She was employed as a Secretary for the Carpenters Union for 11 years. Jean was born May 3, 1914 in England, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Bracegirdle) Furnival. She married Kenneth Hammett on July 31, 1971 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1984. Survivors include one daughter, Jill (John Langley) Wadle, of Wallingford, CT; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Lynn Bowman. Services will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Schilling Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12-1 PM, Sunday, at the Funeral Home, prior to services. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.
