STERLING- Joan Biermann, 83, of Sterling, died peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family and caregivers. Joan was born November 15, 1930 to William Joseph and Mary (Hartwig) Murphy in Elmhurst. She married Charles Biermann on January 22, 1954, in Lombard. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2012. Joan was an active member of the Sterling-Rock Falls community, and, most notably, was a Board member of Central National Bank, a Board member of the Sterling Public Library, and a member of the Sterling Garden Club. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf, bridge, and traveling, especially to Ireland. Survivors include her two sons, Dave (Jenny) Biermann, of Denver, CO, and Rod (Rachel) Biermann, of Larchmont, NY; two sisters, Helen Bogie of Frisco, TX, and Pat (Ron) Miller, of Chicago; one brother, Bill (Joey) Murphy, of Lombard; and seven grandchildren, Emma, Bridget, Henry, Anne, Sam, Will, and Alec Biermann. A graveside service was held at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Sterling. A Memorial luncheon will be held from 4pm to 6pm at the Rock River Supper Club, in Rock Falls. All who wish to attend are welcome. Donations may be made in honor of Joan Biermann to the Hospice of the Rock River Valley, who provided warm and loving care in the last few months of her life.
