STERLING-Kenneth C. Gould, 93, of Sterling, died August 5, 2021 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling. Kenneth was born December 13, 1927 the son of George and Ruby Gould. Educated in the Sterling Public Schools where he was named charter member of the Athletic Hall of Fame as an individual performer and as a member of the 1945 football team. He was the holder of a BA degree from Monmouth College and a MA degree from the University of Iowa. He was an instructor at Monmouth for three years before returning to Sterling High School where he taught heath and physical education for twenty-eight years. During his teaching career he also coached football, basketball, baseball, track and wrestling in addition to forming an extra curricular gymnastic club. In later years he enjoyed golf, fishing, woodworking and crafts. He served two tours of duty with the United States Marine Corps and was a sixty year member of the American Legion. He was a past member of St. John’s Church, NES, IEA, SEA, and retired teachers. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn (Daniel) Gould Cullivan; son, David Lee (Jane) Gould; step daughters, Karen Verda and Pat (Don) Mewhirter; longtime and beloved companion, Karen “My Lady” Cowley; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Lola (Nelson) Gould and Doreen (Gaffey) Gould; one sister, Glenna Nufer and three brothers, Leslie, John and Arland. Funeral service will be at 11 AM Monday, August 9, 2021 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial with full military honors will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 10-11AM Monday prior to services at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Sterling Legion Scholarship Fund.
