KURT H. GRANZOW STERLING - Kurt H. Granzow, 89, died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at CGH Medical Center. Kurt was born December 9, 1922 in Sterling, the son of Max and Ella (Kleinow) Granzow. He married Audrey M. Granzow on April 27, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2011. Kurt was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Medical Corp. in the Pacific Area for 3 years and was a member of the Sterling American Legion Post 296. He was employed at Frantz Manufacturing Company and Northwestern Steel & Wire prior to retiring from Lawrence Brothers as Chief Engineer for 30 years. Kurt was an avid bowler in the Sterling-Rock Falls area and was a charter member of the Sterling-Rock Falls Bowling Association Hall of Fame, being inducted January 17, 1976. He was a charter member of the local barbershop association. Kurt was also a great fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bulls. Survivors include three sons, David Granzow, of Tok, Alaska, Mark Granzow, of Fort Myers, Florida, and Tim (Ronda) Granzow, of Sterling; four granddaughters, Stacy (Mark) Wolfmeyer, of Washington IL, and Kelly and Amber Granzow, both of Sterling, and Melinda Ryba of Chicago; two great-granddaughters, Lauren Wolfmeyer and Rachael Wolfmeyer; one great-grandson, Jacob Wolfmeyer; and special friends Dick (Dawn) Ryba of Sterling. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend Leo Patterson, officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Funeral Home. A memorial has been established. Condolences may be sent to www.schillingfuneralhome.com.
