LaVerne D. Montgomery Rock Falls - LaVerne D. Montgomery, 97, died Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Sterling Pavilion, Sterling. LaVerne was born October 29, 1915 in Rock Falls, the daughter of Peter and Clara (Jurgens) Dietz. She married William H. Montgomery on May 27, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. Together they operated Montgomery Body Shop, Yellow Cab Company and Hertz Rent-a-Car. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1979. She attended historic Allpress School as a child and graduated from Rock Falls High School, before attending Business College in Pasadena CA. Mrs. Montgomery was always active as a community volunteer. In earlier years a Girl Scout Leader, District ARCW Stewardship Director, and served as Church Women United President at which time she helped establish the United Thrift Center which is still in business. She was club president of Rock Falls Woman's Club president for several terms and served as a member of the Tri County Opportunities Board for 20 years. She loved to garden, visiting the homebound, and sewing with the Lutheran World Relief Quilters. Survivors include a sister, Fern McCall of Warren, MI; a niece, Vicki (Eric) Hall of Aurora, CO; a nephew, Todd McCall of Grapevine, TX; and several nieces and nephews by marriage; and great nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls, with Reverend Henrietta Milner, officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9:00 am-10:00 am, prior to the services, at the church. A memorial has been established to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Trust Fund and the Rock Falls Public Library. Condolences may be sent to www.schillingfuneralhome.com.
