LAVERNE "STAN" PETERSON STERLING ��" Laverne "Stan" Peterson, 75, of Sterling, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at CGH Medical Center. Mr. Peterson was born on September 10, 1933 in Sterling. The son of Virgil and Fern (Carlson) Peterson. He was raised in Tampico and attended Tampico schools. Graduated from Tampico High School, class of 1951. He married Barbara J. Cordes on March 11, 1953, served in the United States Air Force from August 1952 until August 1956. After returning to the area he was employed at the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Company from 1956-1959. In 1959 he moved to Tampico where he started dairy farming until January of 1963. He continued to farm north of Sterling until the present time. Laverne was an active member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sterling, where he served as an Elder for nine years and served on the Jordan and Christ Lutheran School Boards. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Denice Pennington of Sterling; one son, Loren (Cherie) Peterson of Sterling; and four grandchildren, Tiffany and Stephanie Pennington and Emelia and Ivy Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marilyn Fritsch. Services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sterling with Reverend Patrick Pinnion, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be held from 5-8PM Friday at the Schilling Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church
