Lavirne E. (Jack) Cox, 86, of Sterling, died February 19, 2016 in Phoenix, AZ. He was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. for over 36 years as a supervisor in the roll shop. Jack was born May 23, 1929 in Moline, the son of Lavirne and Irene (Ashley) Cox. He served in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War. He married Patricia (Robinson) Cox on May 24, 1952 in England. Jack was an avid tennis player and golfer. Survivors include his wife Patricia of Sterling; one daughter, Deb (Chuck ) Osborn of Sterling; two sons, Barry (Julie) Cox of Sterling and Brian (Toni) Cox of Streator; one sister Judy Zigmont of Florida; one brother, Tim (Sandy) Cox of Sterling; four grandchildren, Tiffanie (Mike) Beck of Sterling, Josh (Marcie) Osborn of Sterling, Brooke (Allen) Dir of Sterling and Kyle Cox of Washington and eight great-grandchildren, Tori Cox, Destiny Morse, Parker Dir, Mckenzie Dir, Carter Dir, Mallory Osborn, Maddux Osborn and Jack Osborn. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Robert Cox and one grandson, Todd Cox. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established.
