STERLING- Leona M. McKenna, 82, of Sterling, died Friday April 28, 2017. Leona was born February 16, 1935 in Sterling, the daughter of Anthony Coppotelli and Hazel Stern. She graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1953. Leona married Richard McKenna on October 1, 1960 in Rock Falls. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sterling. Survivors include her husband Richard; one daughter Julie (Jerry) Lindsey of Lake Villa; one son Brad (Diana) McKenna of North Aurora; one brother Tony Coppotelli of Sterling; four grandchildren Michael, Melissa, Amanda and Alyson; and one great grandchild Dylan. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers Phillip and Richard Coppotelli. Leona enjoyed shopping, visiting the local casinos and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. In her earlier years she was a very accomplished athlete, excelling at basketball, bowling and golf. She was employed at the Rock Falls Dairy during high school and later at National Manufacturing. For many years she worked in women’s fashion for several local retailers. Leona also enjoyed working as a hostess at the Candlelight Inn, where she had the opportunity to socialize with her many friends in the community. Visitation will be 2-4PM and 6-8PM Wednesday May 3, 2017 at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation in Sterling. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10AM Thursday May 4, 2017 at St. Mary’s Church in Sterling, and burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
