STERLING – Mrs. Leone Gladys Reed, 94, died October 6, 2015. Leone Gladys Reed was born April 13, 1921 in Sterling, the daughter of Carl & Nellie (Wolber) Bruns. She married Clarence (Bud) Reed on November 15, 1941. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2011. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and worked on the funeral committee for many years. She was a past member of the Sterling Moose and Elks Club. She worked at Sterling High School for over 20 years. She was an avid card player and hostess for many parties with her husband and known by her grandchildren for great baking and generous holiday entertaining, especially her chocolate chip cookies. She never went to someone’s home without taking something homemade. She is survived by her two daughters, Vicki Merlak of Sterling and Donna (Richard) Strohman of Green Valley AZ; six grandchildren, Dawn (Scott) Bryson, Michelle (Tom) Neubauer, Sue Litwiller, Lonny (Lori) Merlak, Teri (Danny) Schroeder, Heath (Karla) Merlak; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Mervin; her son-in-law, Frank Merlak Jr.; and grandson, Tim Litwiller. Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Mark Oehlert officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 AM Friday prior to the service at 11 AM. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. A luncheon will be served at St. John’s Lutheran Church following the burial. A Memorial has been established.
