Lila Ebersole

Lila G. Ebersole, 105, of Sterling, died, Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Avonlea Cottages. She was an RN prior to retirement at the Whiteside County Health Department. Lila was born November 17, 1911 in Sterling, the daughter of A.C. and Mamie (Landis) Good. She married Glenn Ebersole on October 8, 1938 in Sterling. He preceded her in death in 1986. Lila started nurses training in 1930 at the Mennonite Hospital School of Nursing in La Junta Colorado. In 1934 she returned to Sterling and began working at Sterling Hospital. From 1936-1941 she worked at the Evanston Hospital. While raising her family, she worked part-time at Community General Hospital. In 1966, when medicare began, Lila became the first home health nurse at the Whiteside County Health Department. Lila was a long time member of the Science Ridge Mennonite Church, and her faith had been the mainstay in her life. Her faith in the Lord had given her a strong family and many friends. She also enjoyed leading women's Bible studies with Stonecroft Ministries. She had many interest; loving to travel, cook, garden, sew, knit, and play her pump organ. Survivors include one son, Gary (Nancy) Ebersole of East Galesburg; Son-in-Law Doug (Harriet) Berg Hidden Valley PA; three grandchildren, Karla (Ian) Hillier of Minneapolis, MN, Steven (Rebecca) Berg of Denver, CO and Andrew Ebersole of Chicago; two great-grandchildren, Caroline Berg and Leni Berg, both of Denver, CO and two step-grandchildren, Aaron (Chie) McNaught of Glendale, CA and Justin (Elvith) McNaught of Galesburg. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rita Berg and one sister, Mabel Springer. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, November 17, 2017 at Science Ridge Mennonite Church with Pastor Arnie Owens, officiating. Burial will be at Science Ridge Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be from10-11 AM Friday, prior to services at the church. Arrangements were completed by the Schilling Funeral Home and Cremation, Sterling. A memorial has been established.
