Lorna Witmer, 97, of Sterling, died Saturday, December 25, 2021 at Pine Crest Manor in Mt. Morris. Lorna was born November 26, 1924 in Morrison, the daughter of Samuel and Edith (Hensler) Witmer. Survivors include a sister, Alice (Merle) Ebersole of Dixon. She was preceded in death by five sisters: Ethel (Amos) Ebersole, Gladys (Roy) Hess, Mabel (Russell) Hess, Flossie (Leland) Horst, and Mary Emily Witmer; three brothers: Harry (Beulah) Witmer, Clifford (Grace) Witmer, and Henry (Ruth) Witmer; two nephews, James Ebersole and Tim Hess; three nieces: Dora Quimby, Marcia Boyd and Sharon Vogel; and lifelong friend, Laura Scott. She was a lifelong member of the Science Ridge and West Sterling Mennonite Churches. She also enjoyed a 43-year Banking career at First National Bank. She loved volunteering for Hospice of the Rock River Valley. One of her great focuses in the name of our grandmother was Christmas, so perhaps it is a fitting conclusion that she slipped away on Christmas, late in the day all of her assigned duties having been completed. Graveside service will be at 11 AM Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Science Ridge Mennonite Cemetery in Sterling with Steve Hess officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
