Lowell E. Grummert, 83, died, Monday October 23, 2017 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling surrounded by his family. Lowell was born August 1, 1934 in Beatrice, NE. the son of Norman and Amanda (Schuerman) Grummert. He married Connie Nider on August 2, 1953 in Jansen, NE. She preceded him in death on October 28, 1997. He then married Judy King on August 28, 1999. Lowell moved to Sterling in 1964 working for Sterling Multi Products. In 1970, Lowell purchased the Coast to Coast hardware store in downtown Sterling and soon expanded the business into Rock Falls. In 1985, a fire destroyed the Sterling location. Because of his commitment to the community, Lowell rebuilt the store that would later become Grummert’s Hardware. Lowell was very active in the community volunteering his time and serving on a multitude of civic organizations and service groups. He was committed to helping others, especially those in his community, and exemplified what it means to be a generous human being. Lowell was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and enjoyed cheering on the Huskers in good times and bad. Nothing brought Lowell more joy than his family. For him, life was incomplete if not surrounded by his children and his grandchildren. He was the patriarch of a close family who loved him more than anything.
