Marcia L Fields, age 76, passed away peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, on January 30th, 2023. She was born February 23, 1946 in Sterling, Illinois to Lois and Walter Cassens. She married Gary Fields on February 3rd, 1973 in Sterling, Illinois. Gary and Marcia were married for 50 years.
Marcia graduated from Sterling High School in 1964. She went on to study nursing at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and graduated with a Nursing Degree in 1967. Marcia worked as a nurse for 6 years on the orthopedic floor of Methodist Hospital in Peoria, Il. After marrying Gary, she worked at CGH in Sterling, Il.
Marica loved to “love on people”. She would send cards to family, friends and members of her church for birthdays and anniversaries. She was always looking for interesting articles to share
along with a humorous greeting card. When her children were in elementary school she was an avid parent volunteer and known as the “Campbell Soup Lady”, collecting the Campbell Soup Labels from students and sending them in for school supplies.
A loving wife, mother and homemaker, Marcia loved to travel with Gary and to experience new things; they made many friends along the way! She was a wonderful baker and was known for her over 20 different kinds of Christmas cookies. She loved to entertain and have family and friends over for coffee and dinner. Marcia was actively involved with her church and loved visiting her children, grand-children and great granddaughter.
Marcia is survived by her husband Gary Fields, children Katy Barnett (Chris), Keith Fields (Jenn), Ken Fields (Donna), Kim Fields (Jackie), grandchildren Krystle, Kraig, Jason, Julia, Sarah, Ava, Iyla and great granddaughter Kherington. She has a sister, Barbara Koenig, brother, Larry Cassens and many close cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lois and Walter Cassens.
The family has entrusted Schilling Funeral Home with the arrangements. Visitation will be from 10AM-12PM followed by a service at 12PM on Saturday, February 18th, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Rock River Hospice & Home and St Paul Lutheran Church in her memory.
