Mary 'Maré' Elizabeth Kaup Born: August 21, 1940 in Sterling, IL Died: November 21, 2021 in Prophetstown, IL Mary "Maré" Elizabeth Kaup passed away November 21, 2021 at Allure of Prophetstown, where she resided since August 2019. She was born August 21, 1940 in Sterling to Henry and Hazel (Nieman) Kaup. Mary was raised in Rock Falls where her family owned and operated the Rock Falls Dairy. She attended St. Mary's Grade School and Newman High School, and graduated from Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado in 1962 with a BA degree in education. Mary was an elementary school teacher in the Denver School System until she switched to a career in property management in Aurora, CO. She loved Denver, the mountains and the climate where she spent 60 years of her life until moving back to Illinois in 2018. Mary had many wonderful friends over the years, loved life, was always eager to entertain family and friends, and had a generous spirit. She was a loving dog mom to her Shih Tzus, Toby, Muffin, Bailey and Banks. Mary is survived by her sister, Jane M Kaup, Harbor Springs, MI and Clemson, SC, brother Peter H (Kathy) Kaup, Blue Ridge, GA, niece Elizabeth (Lizz) Kaup, Tecumseh, OK and niece Katherine (Kati) and husband Gerome Gregory, Ft Lauderdale, Fl, Douglas Bogott (Michelle), Corona, CO and Laurie Bogott. Tyler, TX. Thanks to Zoom technology, Mary was able to meet her 13 day old grandniece, London Nicole Gregory. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Aunt Liz, nephew, Christopher Nicholas Kaup and nephews Michael and Stephen Bogott. A special thanks to the staff at Allure for their wonderful care, Warren and Vicki (Beien) Jones who were her angels and dear friends Rosemary McMahon and Nobue Barnes. who despite being separated by miles. always maintained their wonderful friendship by phone and email. A funeral Mass will be at St Mary's Church in Sterling on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Masks are required. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
