MAXINE ELAINE GAUMER STERLING- Maxine Elaine Gaumer, 93, of Sterling, died, Monday, December 27, 2021 under the care of Rock River Hospice and Home, Sterling. Maxine was born December 11, 1928 in Sterling, the daughter of Clarence and Irene (Kaufman) Allen. She was a 1947 graduate of Sterling High School. She then pursued a career in the nursing field: 1950 was a busy year for her, earning her registered nursing degree in September and marrying the love of her life, Charles Gaumer, Jr. in November. In 1965 Maxine and Chuck began carving their way through timber and farmland to create what is now known as Ruffit Park. Chuck preceded Maxine in death on January 7, 1997. Surviving are four sons, Chuck (Mary) Gaumer, Max (Pat) Gaumer, Rex (Kim) Gaumer and Alex (Shari) Gaumer, all of Sterling; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and the 1000’s of children that will alway remember Maxine as the lady behind the candy counter at Ruffit Park. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Galloway. There will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded. The family wished to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and nurses at Rock River Hospice and Home. A memorial has been established to Rock River Hospice and Home.
