MERRILL THOMAS GEESEY STERLING- Merrill Thomas Geesey, 98, of Sterling, died, Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Regency Care of Sterling. He was employed at the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Company for thirty-two years, prior to retirement and also farmed most of his life in the area. Merrill was born June 2, 1919 in Milledgeville, the son of Henry Pulver and Mary Geesey. He married Sarah Joan Shirley in Rockford. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling. Survivors include his wife, Sarah of Sterling; one daughter, Carol (Vernon) Schwenk of Ocala FL ;one son, Merrill A. Geesey of Rock Falls; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Schilling Funeral Home and Cremation, Sterling, with the Reverend Leo Patterson, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 12-1 PM Monday, prior to services at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling.
