Naomi Frye

Naomi Benters Frye, 97, formerly of Sterling, died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Brighton Gardens, St. Charles, IL. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a dear friend of many. Naomi was born November 6, 1921 in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Ethel (Gaffey) and Carl Benters. She graduated from Sterling High School, where she was a cheerleader and involved in too many activities to list. She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She married Lawrence Vernon Frye on June 1, 1946 in Sterling, IL. While Vernon was in law school at Northwestern University, Naomi worked in the Activities Office at Evanston Township High School, a job she loved. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Tom) Frye McBride of Chicago; son, Lawrence J.(Louise) Frye of Woodside, CA; five grandchildren, Mallory (Kevin) Frye Platshon, of PortolaValley, CA; Lawrence Maxfield Frye of San Francisco, Maude Louise Frye of Woodside, CA;Spencer Frye McBride of Denver, CO; and Ashley Frye McBride of Golden, CO, and four great-grandsons: Finn McBride Rankine, Van McBride Rankine, Maxfield Frye Platshon, and CharlesNavarre Platshon. Visitation will be at the First Christian Church of Sterling from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 11th. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Zach Mapes, officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. Naomi was an avid reader throughout her life. She requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Sterling Public Library, which she loved.
