NELLIE BERNICE HOHLEN STERLING - Nellie Bernice Hohlen, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 6, 2010. With the help of her family and care givers she was able to remain in her home. She was born January 29, 1914 in Sterling the daughter of John and Helen (Stralow) Jacobs She Married Henry Hohlen on March 3, 1934 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1963. She was a homemaker and together they farmed in this area all their married life. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. Nellie was the dear mother of Janice(Gail) Bush of Galt, Joyce(Ron) Roberts of Sterling, Sandy (Bob) Daugherty of Little Chute Wisconsin, Sherrie(Lyle) Dirks of Freeport, 2 Daughter-In-Laws Marilou Hohlen and Pat Hohlen. She is also survived by two caring and devoted sisters, Evelyn and Dorothy Jacobs. Nellie was a loving grandmother of, Kathy (Ray) Ybarra, Kent(Sue) Hohlen, Kevin(Jennifer) Hohlen, Kristy (Tom) Loos, Eric(Kay) Bush, Troy(Kim) Bush, Todd Roberts, Jason(Jen) Roberts, Ryan(Stacy) Roberts, Laura Daugherty, Amy Daugherty, Lindsey(Eric) Winkel, Brian Daugherty, Nathan Dirks, Angela Dirks, Amber Dirks, and Jacob Dirks. Nellie was the loving great-grandmother of 23, great-great grandmother of 8, and two nieces Karen (Ron) Nehring, and Karla Hinrichs. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sons Ronald (Infancy), Duane and Lyle and 1 sister Marjorie Hinrichs. A service celebrating Nellie's life and the resurrection of our Lord will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 10:30am at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Sterling with Rev. Patrick Pinion officiating, with burial following at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Schilling Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 from 5-7p.m. A memorial has been established to Hospice of The Rock River Valley and Messiah Lutheran Church.
