RALPH J. RIOS DIXON - Ralph J. Rios, 49, died Monday, April 4, 2011 at his home. He was employed as a Journeyman Pipefitter, and was a 30 year member of Plumbers and Pipefitter Local Union 25. Ralph was born September 13, 1961 in Spring Valley, the son of Rafael V. and Dolores Marie (Jimenez) Rios. Ralph was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. He was the parliamentarian for the Latin American Social Club. Ralph was a two time golden glove winner, state and national champ, and a member of the USA Boxing Team from John Russell Boxing Club. He moved his family to Queensland Australia, founded a boxing club and trained boxers for the Australian Olympic team. Ralph enjoyed fishing on his boat "the green bean" no matter the weather. Ralph had a great sense of humor and loved sharing stories. Survivors include his father, Rafael V. Rios, of Sterling; two daughters, Heather Rios, and Angela Rios; three sisters, Delia (Kevin) Spooner, of Rock Falls, Martha Martinez, of Rochelle, and Laura (Rudy) Ortiz, of Rockford; one brother, Andrew Rios, of LaGrange; and two grandchildren Laelah, and Lisa; and one grand puppy Moose. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dolores Marie Rios, and a sister, Lisa Kinneman. Celebration Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 7, 2011, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Juan Ayala, pastor officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM, Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Schilling Funeral Home with rosary to be recited at 7:30 PM.
