Raymond Hammelman

Raymond L. Hammelman Rockford - Raymond L. Hammelman, 93, lifelong Sterling resident, died Monday, October 21, 2013 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He farmed in the area for many years until 1986. Raymond was born April 18, 1920 in Sterling, the son of Lester and Fern (Seng) Hammelman. He married Iola Bennett on August 3, 1941 in Sterling, and they were married for 72 years. Raymond was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Iola; one daughter, Rita Hammelman of Palmer, TX; one son, Frank (Virginia) Hammelman of Saint Charles; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother Ralph Hammelman; and one sister Lorraine Reins. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Reverend Mark Oehlert, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 am-10:30 am, prior to services at the church. A memorial has been established to St. John's Lutheran Church, Sterling.
