RICHARD PAUL " DICK" BREITWEISER STERLING- Richard Paul "Dick" Breitweiser, 87, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at his home. He was employed as United States Postmaster in Sterling, for thirty-seven years, prior to retirement in 1985. Richard was born January 21, 1925 in Sterling, the son of Leslie and Jessie (Graham) Breitweiser. He served in the United States Army, field artillery, during WWII, He also joined the European Theater in France from June 1944 - July 1945. He married Frances Miller on June 2, 1946 at the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling and was ordained as an elder. Richard had been a member of the Sterling/Rock Falls Historical Society for forty years, where he served as President for two years, and was the current treasurer, Chairman of the Riverside Cemetery Board for six years, Chairman of Whiteside County 708 Board for Mental Health, which organized Self Help, on the government and Public Relations Committee, now known as CGH Health Foundation and started serving as AARP tax aid in 1986 for twenty-five years. Survivors include his wife Frances of Sterling. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Lyle James Breitweiser. Services will be held at 10 AM Monday, February 20, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling, with the Reverend, Christina Berry, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM Sunday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
