STERLING-Robert G. “Bob” Doering, 86, of Rock Falls, died, Thursday, May 16, 2019 at his home. Bob was born at home on the family farm to L.A. “Luke and Helen Doering in Whiteside County on February 7, 1933. He attended a one room schoolhouse and had the same teacher for 8 years. He attended Morrison High School but graduated from Amboy High School. Bob married Carol Donnavon and had four children. He later married Betty Madson and gained one more child who he learned to love rather quickly. He entered the United States Army and ended up in Korea with the 245 Tank Battalion. After Army services he went back to work at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. He first worked as a crane operator and then ended his time as a crane mechanic. He took his retirement on January 30, 1984 and moved his family to Florida. He had a variety of careers while living in Florida and worked for Frantz Manufacturing for several years. He drove a semi for various employees. He then managed a car rental and truck company which he enjoyed very much. After that they bought a motor home and traveled and played golf in a lot of pretty places. The highlight of all these travels was the trip to Europe in 1990 to see where their grandparents were from. In 1998 they moved back to Illinois and Bob drove semi for another five years. In between these jobs he worked for different farmers. He never lost his love for the land. Bob was a Lutheran all his life and held several affairs in the Missouri Synod. He tried to always make church come first. He was also a life member of the Rock Falls American Legion and Rock Falls VFW. He is survived by three of his five children, Mark and (Brenda) Doering, Segue Doering and Rita Litchfield. Segue had a twin sister Kimberly that was lost in a terrible car accident at ten years of age. Her sister Paula Hart passed away at age 58. He is also survived by brother, Bill (Sally) Doering and a sister, Mary Ellen and (Louie) Trout and one brother and sister-in-law, Don (Lorraine) Hand. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was very proud of being a grandfather of twins and great-grandfather of twins. Funeral services will be held on 10 AM Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Rock Falls, with Reverend Daniel Behmlander, pastor, officiting. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 4-6 Monday, at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Memorials have been established to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Rock Falls. Arrangements were completed by Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation, Sterling.
