Robert S. Kuba, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on March 27th, 2025 at the age of 88. Robert S. Kuba was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to parents Stanley and Gertrude (Womochel) Kuba.
Bob graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Cedar Rapids. Growing up he was an involved member of his church where he served as an altar boy. Between high school and college, he worked at Collin’s Radio in Cedar Rapids for two years. He served as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Iowa and his Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa. Bob met Jeanne (Brandt) Kuba at Central School and fell in love. They were married on June 11th, 1966 in Sterling, Illinois and were married for 58 years. Bob raised his family in Sterling where he spent much of his life making a difference in the community as a dedicated psychologist.
Bob started with Sterling Public Schools before working at Bi-County. As a psychologist he also worked testing for vocational rehabilitation. Most of Bob’s professional time was spent at Sinnissippi Centers where he worked for over 40 years. His time at Sinnissippi Centers was marked by his compassion and dedication to helping others.
Outside of his professional life, Bob volunteered at Self-Help Enterprises, a passion of his. He was active in the community serving as President of Band Boosters, a volunteer at Sauk Valley Food Bank, a member of Toastmasters International, and council member at St. John’s Lutheran Church. In retirement he also worked and supported Mt. Carroll Public Schools.
For leisure Bob loved traveling with his favorite companion, his wife Jeanne (Brandt) Kuba. They loved many places, particularly London U.K. and the American Club in Kohler Wisconsin. A good beer or cup of coffee was something he could always appreciate, often enjoying a drink while relaxing and reflecting on his travels and life experiences. Bob had many passions that brought him joy. He was also an avid fan of Donald Duck, often sharing his love for the classic character with his family. Additionally, Bob had a talent for building things—whether it was a simple project around the house or something more intricate, his creations often benefited his family. From creating a robot for his wife's classroom to clocks for his children, his hands were never idle. He leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, humor, and a life well-lived.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne (Brandt) Kuba, son Michael Kuba (Rochelle Bollman), daughter Elizabeth (John) Hubbard, his two granddaughters, Hannah Hubbard (Keegin Todd) and Sarah (Andrew) McFadden, and his three great-grandchildren, Penelope, Owen, and Emmett and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Gertrude (Womochel) Kuba, sister June DeLay, brother-in-law, cousin Bill Kuba, and grandson Ian Hubbard.
The visitation will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church on Thursday, April 3rd at 10:00am, with the funeral to follow at 11:00am. He will be buried in Riverside Cemetery in Sterling. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and honor his life.
Memorials have been established at Sinnissippi Centers Incorporated and St. John’s Lutheran Church.
