STERLING- Rolf L. Helm, died Friday, October 23, 2015, after a brief stay at CGH Medical Center. Rolf was born July 2, 1927 in Chicago, the son of Eilert O. and Sarah Hjelmeseth. Rolf served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, followed by Law School at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. He was a practicing attorney in Chicago before spending the bulk of his career at his own practice in Sterling. He retired in 1989. After retirement he and Mary Lou volunteered at Red Bird Mission in Beverly, Kentucky. Rolf was active in his community as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rotary Club and a daily downtown coffee group. Rolf is survived by Mary Lou (Boyles) Helm, his wife of 66 years. He is also survived by his four children, Rolf Allan, Steven Paul (Teri Stolzoff Helm), David Charles (Regina Gustafson Helm), Ann Louise (Scott McKell), and four grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth (Shaun Whitley), Eric Leif, Jaime Morgan and Erin Renee Helm. He has many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother John Arne Helm, and his granddaughter Kristin Laraine Helm. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Brandon Nelson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Tuesday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
