Russell John Burmeister, son of Harry and Ruth (Woessner) Burmeister, was born on October 7, 1929, in Milledgeville, Illinois. Russell passed away in Arnold, Missouri on April 17, 2025
Survivors include his wife, Laurie, of 76 years. A daughter, Carol Prichard of Roanoke, Virginia. A son, Larry (Beth) Burmeister of Festus, MO. A grandson, Phillip (Christina) Burmeister of Imperial, MO. A granddaughter, Tricia (Jeff) Eyermann of St. Louis, MO. Five great-grandchildren, Summer Burmeister of Imperial, MO; Haley (Anthony) Bogay of St. Louis, MO; Autumn (Austin) Butterfield of Imperial, MO; Bradon (Bailey) Bass of Searcy, AR, and Payton Bass of St. Louis, MO. One Great-Great-grandchild, Cambree Bass (Jeremy Bass, grandson in heart). Two added great ones; Abby and Kaylee Eyermann of Imperial, MO. One added great-great one, Sawyer. Russ and Laurie have a special relationship with niece Karen Orendorff and husband Kim, as well as beloved uncle to many.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Laverne Burmeister and Lawrence Burmeister and sister, Lorraine Kunde, and recently his son-in-law Steve Prichard.
Russ had his own Towing & Service business for 52 years in Rock Falls, Illinois. Upon retiring at the end of 2003, Russ and Laurie relocated to Venice, Florida where they enjoyed a different way of life for 20 years. They relocated to Arnold, Missouri in September of 2024.
Russ volunteered at Habitat For Humanity in Venice and became their number one volunteer for many years. Russ mowed and cared for some neighbor’s lawns, as well as his own. Always there to help others kept him busy. His hobby was a 1931 Ford Wrecker he purchased as a retirement gift. He enjoyed showing his wrecker at car shows, winning many trophies and awards.
Russ was a member of Harvest Chapel Church in Venice where he enjoyed being at the door to welcome church family every Sunday.
Visitation will be at Schilling Funeral Home,(702 1st Ave., Sterling, IL) on Friday April 25, 2025, from 10:00 am. To 11:45 am. Followed by a brief service at 11:45 am.
Private burial will take place at Oak Knoll Cemetery.
