RUTH G. ALLEN STERLING - Ruth G. Allen, 92, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Good Neighbor Care of Sterling. Ruth was born March 23, 1919 in Malvern, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Murphy) Gaffey. She married James W. Allen on June 2, 1941 in Sterling. She and her husband, Jim were co-owners of North End Liquor in Sterling. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2004. Ruth was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. She was also a member of the Sterling Rock Falls Elk Lodge #1218 Auxiliary, the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Mary Catholic Church and the Red Hat Society. Survivors include one daughter, Karen Peterson, of Sterling; five sons, James (Julie) Allen of Wheaton, Timothy (Jennifer) Allen of Middleton, WI, Thomas Allen, of Wheaton, Richard (Julie) Allen, of Sugar Grove, and Christopher Allen, of Louisville, KY; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Edward Gaffey. Celebration Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 29, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling with Monsignor Thomas E. Bales, officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm, Friday, October 28, 2011 at Schilling Funeral Home and from 10-11 AM, Saturday, at the Church, prior to services.
